Death clocks

This data tool visualizes the estimated number of deaths that have occcurred in Canada so far today (since 12:00 midnight) and so far this year (since 12:00 midnight on January 1) in 2025.

Each circular figure in this tool visually represents the amount of time that it takes on average for one person to die in Canada, with different circles corresponding to different causes of death. In the time that it takes for one "death clock" to come full circle, it is estimated that one person in Canada will have died.

* Based on the relationship between population and mortality over the last 10 years for which mortality data is available (2014 to 2023), one person in Canada will die every ... in 2025.

Mortality data table

In the following table, you will find the top 10 causes of death among all Canadians, optionally broken down by sex or by age, in the year 2023. For each of these causes and groupings, you will find the number of deaths recorded in 2023 and the associated estimated number of deaths in 2025, along with the average estimated time between deaths.
